Moving Mountains for our Clients

Tyler 2 has quite a history with Carolina HealthCare System, and not just as patients. So when the healthcare organization opened a Mountain Island Lake office near uptown Charlotte, N.C., we hoped we’d be chosen – again. And we were. We brought RPA Design’s vision to life.

We’ve partnered with Carolinas HealthCare on new construction and upfits for years. This time the bid involved the interior upfit of 26,884 SF of leased space in the new two-story Mountain Island Lake Medical Office Building. With this project, Carolinas HealthCare System selected a new finish schedule to incorporate as their new building standard.

The challenge

The new finish materials required long lead times and innovative installation techniques. There were five building tenants, and we had a total of 16 weeks from start to occupancy. The building shell contractor was still on the project during the interior upfits, which meant our crew was working on the interior upfit while the exterior was still under construction.

Shortly after the project started, a major tenant opted for a complete redesign of their space. Their upfit started four weeks after the others, yet we completed it within two weeks of completing the other tenant spaces. (We can move mountains when we need to.) With each floor and each space being unique, scheduling and coordination of work posed a logistical challenge.

The solution

Tyler 2 was responsible for coordination and communication among all the key players. Tyler 2 successfully completed all work on time – meeting each individual tenant’s opening date – and within budget. Since the completion of this project, Tyler 2 Construction continues to provide high-quality general contracting services to Carolinas HealthCare System. It’s a healthy partnership.
